Sustainable Daisen's mission is to promote sustainable practices which will ensure the survival of the Japanese giant salamander and the conservation of its environment.

The Japanese giant salamander is one of the largest and most extraordinary amphibians in the world, and has remained nearly unchanged for 23 million years.

They now face the possibility of extinction due to human activity.

Save the Japanese Giant Salamander Campaign

The Japanese giant salamander is a rare species designated as a Special Natural Monument and Treasure of Japan.

Due to human activities their very existence is under threat unless urgent conservation measures are taken.

We aim to show the world how special the Japanese giant salamanders and their Mount Daisen home are.
